Your CreekS
Unincorporated Concord
DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR STORM DRAINS FLOW?
Unincorporated Concord is home to several important creeks, primarily Mount Diablo Creek and Pine Creek. Mount Diablo Creek originates on the northern flank of Mount Diablo and flows northwest through Clayton and Concord, eventually reaching the tidelands of Suisun Bay. The creek is an intermittent stream with several tributaries, including Donner Creek and Mitchell Creek. The lower part of its watershed, including the former Concord Naval Weapons Station, is a vital wildlife corridor, serving as a passage for animals like black-tailed deer and tule elk between Mount Diablo and the bay.

Pine Creek is another major waterway in the area. It's the second largest subwatershed in the Walnut Creek basin, draining the western slopes of Mount Diablo. It flows through parts of Mount Diablo State Park and joins Galindo Creek downstream before it reaches the mainstem of Walnut Creek. Like other creeks in urbanized areas, it faces challenges from development but provides crucial riparian habitat. These creeks are not just part of the stormwater system; they are also important ecological resources that support a variety of wildlife and offer a connection to the natural environment within a developed landscape.
